There’s been a lot going on over the past few weeks. I started Physical Therapy last week and it’s kicking my butt! 🙂 We’re focusing on balance and gait right now and some of the exercises are harder than I remember, but I’m celebrating the fact that I have a great therapist and therapist assistant.

My neurologist has taken me completely off the Keppra as of this past Wednesday. One down, three to go!!

I treated myself to a pair of Fila running sneakers and a pair of shoes. Walking in the sneakers was awkward at first because I kept feeling like I was going to fall forward because of the little dip in the front. All my sneakers have been flat for the past five and a half years. 😀 No doubt I’ll go from shuffling to hustling in no time.

Vivi and I started a ten-day juice diet a few weeks ago and have been trying to change our eating habits. I’ve lost almost ten pounds in the past three weeks.

As always,  I’m STILL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GRASS!! Woot, woot!

What have you celebrated this week?

I just checked my last CTST post from late February and what a difference a few weeks make. The weather went from Spring-like to Winter in the span of a week. We got pounded with two feet of snow and the weather was down to about 10 degrees.

My knee has been screaming in pain for the past couple of weeks and my back pain and left-sided neuropathic pain haven’t fared much better. The muscle relaxers haven’t done squat. I missed posting my weekly quote since the end of February, so I’m annoyed at myself for that.

However, I do have things to celebrate this week:

I went with Vivi and the fams to see Logan last weekend. Excellent movie, although it was sad for me since I’m a newly converted Marvelite. 🙂

My initial Physical Therapy eval for 2017 went well last week. I have my first official session next week.

Today marks the end of my juice cleanse slash detox, so I can finally have some real food! Nums.

Vivi’s fam is going to see Beauty and the Beast on Sunday. Her daughter Emi badly wants to see it. Fingers crossed that I’ll be feeling well enough to join them. I’ve always loved that story.  🙂

Even though I struggle with a lot of bad days, I’m blessedly STILL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GRASS!! That’s why I continue keepin’ it movin’! Boo Yaa and Amen!!

Even though I found myself sleeping a lot for the first few days after the increase in my Depakote, I managed (as I usually do) to find a few things to celebrate this week.

  1. The weather the past two days have been glorious. The snow is mostly melted and it feels like Spring. When the weather is this nice, my pain levels are reduced. I’m thrilled about that.
  2. Vivi’s family and I went to a Puerto Rican spot on Saturday to celebrate her hubby’s birthday. The food was amazing.
  3. I spoke to a friend that I haven’t seen in years and when I head to NJ next, we’re planning to meet up. Super stoked.

Best of all, I’m STILL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GRASS!! Can I get a woohoo!! 🙂

There are some things I need to discuss regarding the MRIs I had taken a few weeks ago, but that’s for a post next week. Today, I’m keeping it all positive.

  • I saw my neurologist today and he’s weaning me off the Keppra and next week starting to increase the Depakote. He’s working one med at a time in case there’s a problem, he’ll know which med is responsible. I’m just happy to get this ball rolling already.
  • Last week my other blog, lilicasplace celebrated four years of blogging.
  • Vivi and I also had manicures done last week.
  • After my neuro visit, Vivi treated me to breakfast before heading off to work.

And of course, I’m STILL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GRASS!!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to find the little things to celebrate. I’ve had the loss of an officer that I knew in my EMS days, and the anniversary of a medic supervisor that I also worked with, and who had the same thing happen to him that happened to me. Whenever the anniversary comes up of someone I knew who had what I had, I can’t help but feel some survivor’s guilt. I know that’s crazy but I can’t help it.

Anyway, through all of that, I managed to come up with a couple of things that I’m grateful for.

  1. I helped co-host January’s Insecure Writers Support Group (through my lilicasplace blog), thanks to the amazing Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh.
  2. I finally treated myself to a new Kindle.
  3. I get to see the kids next week and have another baby shower on Saturday.
  4. I’m STILL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GRASS, so there’s that.

Make sure to take a moment to thank them! I haven’t posted CTST in a few weeks, so there’s much to celebrate. 🙂

  • I saw my new neurologist this week and he is awesome. After a thorough exam and study of my current meds, he had an idea to start me on a medication that could possibly replace FOUR that I’m currently taking. FOUR! I’ll save the details for a post next week, but I’m so hopeful.
  • Two weekends ago, I went with a few friends to a baby shower in NJ. It was my first venture on the NJ Transit train (alone) since I got sick. We had a blast.
  • Last weekend, I went with two of the same friends to an Ugly Sweater Christmas Party hosted by my adopted EMS son Alex and his wife Cindy. I took him under my wing when he first became an EMT and was my probie on my overnight volunteer shift. He had no idea I was going. I stayed in the car while my friends went in to ask him to help bring in a package. When he finally saw me, his words were, “Oh my God, Mama Dukes!!” I thought we’d both cry and he told my friends I was the best Christmas present he could ask for. 🙂
  • I went to dinner at Applebees with Vivi after my neuro appointment Tuesday for a girls night out. Her daughter works there and made us a specialty holiday drink – a mint chocolate martini. Yums!
  • I just read an email yesterday from Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh, author of the entire Cassa Series, that I won a giveaway for his book, Dragon of the Stars on audio! How cool is that?! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, la la la la la!

I’m not kidding when I said I need this now. I know it’s after 1:30 AM Saturday here on the east coast, but it is still Friday in the other parts of the country. Hope that counts. 🙂

I haven’t had a good couple weeks, with moving/ management company issues, pain, and getting my medical insurance squared away for NY, among other things. I’ll leave it at that because I want to talk about the good things – the small things that have made the past couple of weeks tolerable.

My daughter is 29-years-old today, and I called just after midnight. She was just getting off her EMS shift when I called (half-night for the birthday girl). Her comment to me was ‘This is my last year in my 20’s; once 30 hits, I have to get my shit together.” Umm,  I couldn’t be prouder of her or my son-in-law if I tried. They both work hard, Mandy has her EMT now, so she has her day job and Friday and Saturday nights on the ambulance.

I’m celebrating having a chance to see Doctor Strange with Vi and the family. It was awesome, and I am completely obsessed with Marvel now.

Vi has gone above & beyond helping get things out of the cottage and bringing them to the house.

We went out to eat at an awesome Indian restaurant called Saffron. It’s my second time there and I love the food! You can just call me Ms. Chicken Tikka Masala. Yum.

One of the other things that have been making me laugh and/or smile are the Obama/Biden memes. O.o

And always the best, I’m STILL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GRASS!!
